Select a licit or illicit substance that has the potential for abuse and/ or dependence and create a fictional case study of an individual that is demonstrating symptoms of either substance abuse or dependence. A thorough discussion of his/her present symptoms, degree that the substance is interfering with the individual's functioning, and current stressors is necessary in order to support your conclusions. In addition, include background information relevant to the problem (i.e. age of onset of substance use, family history, life events that may have contributed to this problem) in order to provide support for your conclusions for substance abuse or substance dependence. Also, a discussion of risk and protective factors for this individual is required.
