Introduction
In this assessment, you will explore capital budgeting, which is the process of evaluating the feasibility and selection of investment projects. You will examine basic capital budgeting techniques, such as payback, discounted payback, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), profitability index (PI), and modified internal rate of return (MIRR).
Preparation
This assessment focuses on capital budgeting calculations. A good understanding of the principles of capital budgeting theory and of capital budgeting measurement techniques is necessary in order to understand how to correctly calculate the net present value and internal rate of return statistics. Accordingly, it is recommended you thoroughly read and understand the Principles of Finance text, Chapter 16, “How Companies Think about Investing,” before reviewing the problems and solutions provided in the Capital Budgeting Example tab of the assessment template.
