CASE STUDY: ABSTRACT, BIBLIOGRAPHY, AND OUTLINE ASSIGNMENT

An abstract is a concise summary that orients the reader with the major points in a paper or research

project. Abstracts are typically written for completed research and help readers decide whether

your work is relevant. Here, use this abstract as a starting point for your case study. While your

conclusions and analysis may change in your Case Study: Final Assignment submitted at the end

of this course, writing an abstract now will help narrow the focus of your research.

INSTRUCTIONS

The student will submit an abstract of at least 150-250 words that identifies the risk event, the

success or failure of the risk management response, an overview of the student’s analysis or thesis

statement, and a conclusion. The student will also submit a bibliography of 10 preliminary

scholarly sources from within the last 5 years. The abstract should represent a well-thought and

thorough idea of what your Case Study: Final Assignment will resemble. The abstract does not

have to appear in your final submission. It is expected that as you refine your research and continue

drafting, the direction of your analysis and conclusion may change. However, incomplete

thoughts, unrefined analysis, and incoherent ideas will result in a reduction of the student’s grade.

This assignment serves as the student’s proposal, and an opportunity for instructor feedback on

the direction of the student’s research and analysis.

 The student will write a 150-250 word abstract, and submit a bibliography of 10

preliminary scholarly sources.

 The assignment must be in current Bluebook format.

 Acceptable sources include scholarly articles in peer reviewed journals, books, periodicals,

etc. These sources should relate to and support your abstract. Sources that seem unrelated

or that do not support the student’s abstract will result in a reduction of the student’s grade.

The sources must be academic in nature. Do not use websites such as Wikipedia, Quora,

etc. The sources should reflect broad research on the risk event you have identified.

 Abstract and bibliography must be written in 12-point, Times New Roman font with 1-inch

margins. You are not required to cite the textbook or assigned readings. You must submit

the paper as a Microsoft Word file.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
