Project vs Operations Exercise

The attached document will provide you with a template to complete this exercise. Additional instructions are in the template.

PROJECT VS. OPERATIONS EXERCISE

1) Brief Essay: Answer the questions below on operations and projects. Type you answers into this template. Essay should be a minimum of 300 words and rely substantively on the weekly readings (Kloppenborg textbook). Sources must be properly and fully cited (Author, Year, Page Number) and listed properly in a reference section.

What is a project? What are ongoing operations? How are they alike? How are they different?

2) Find four (4) news stories in your local or regional newspaper (two of each) that discuss either a project or ongoing operations. These need to be news articles and not journal articles. The articles must not be older than 2015. Provide the requested information below for each of the articles. The Brief Description needs to provide enough information and facts about the project or operations to complete the Analysis section on Why it is a project or on-going operation. For this section you should analyze the project or operations versus the 4-element text that Kloppenborg provides within the definition of a project. Use this comparative analysis to demonstrate how the projects identified specifically fits the 4 elements of the definition or how the operations do not fit the definition.

* You will be utilizing one of the Projects identified for Problem Sets throughout the rest of the semester. I suggest that for at least one of the Projects identified you select a project that is simple but has significant information available on-line about the project. The best projects for this are usually local projects such as construction projects, economic development projects of cities, or other localized projects where the scope of the project is easily identifiable and information is readily available. *

There is no word minimum but it is expected each of the sections will provide the information needed to provide an adequate comparative analysis. These sections need to be completed in narrative format and not as lists or charts.
