Creating a Business Plan powerpoint

Here are the expectations for you to prepare your Business Plan in PowerPoint.

Purpose: When presenting information in business the expert on the information is the presenter, not the presentation. The information on the slides are queues to the presenter about the points being discussed. The presenter uses notes, in your case you will be using the ‘notes’ section of the PowerPoint slide to contain your notes.

Submitting your assignment:

· You must submit the file in a PowerPoint format (.ppt or .pptx).

The presentation content:

· A business professional' PowerPoint presentation is designed to be presented to an audience, not as a document to be read.

· Use the "Notes" section of PowerPoint to document your answer to the question in sentences and to provide justification of the answer. You are required to have a written summary of what you would be telling the audience when presenting the slide, in the Notes section.

· You must provide research that supports any assumptions or decisions you make. Most businesses use the American Psychological Association (A.P.A.) format. Always put a citation with the bulleted item and put the reference in the NOTES section.

· Keep in mind, you are presenting to a management audience. There could also be some executives in the audience as well. Use graphs and images to get across your point.

· HINT: Complete your notes first and then figure out what key info should be in the bullets on the slide.

Formatting guidance:

· Each slide should address a specific point(s).

· Each slide should have 3-5 bullets with 5-7 words per bullet.

· Do not use sentences on your slides!

· Use images when it makes sense.

Instructions.

Now that you have reviewed the instructional video(s) on the Company Description section of the business plan,  you are going to continue building your own business plan for a pretend business you will be defining throughout the rest of this course. The plan sections are divided into assignments for each chapter.  In this third section, we ask you to identify which legal formation of business you will use and start making high level decisions regarding funding and what you will manufacture/assemble or the service you will provide.  Follow the explanations around legal formations as described in your text. In the second part of this section, we ask you to identify the levels of management your organization will have, the business functions they will be responsible for, and a brief description of the management process they will use.  Follow the explanations of the management process as described in your text.

Create a MS PowerPoint with your answers to the items in Step 1 and Step 4 below.  You are not an expert in your chosen industry so your answers should use external academic sources to support your decisions and statements. Include a separate slide for a list of 3-4 references used.

To submit your completed assignment, under the SUBMIT button section: Upon completing your assignment click on the SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT button at the top of the page.  Then, click on the CHOOSE FILE button, find your PowerPoint file and upload your submission.  Make sure to click the SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT button once the file is done uploading.

Step 1:  Mission Statement

· Develop a mission statement. (use this article explaining how to create a vision mission statemen:

· Establish Mission and Purpose

· If your organization does not have a clear mission statement, then you must begin

· with this activity.

· A mission statement is enduring. Think very long term, 20 to 100 years.

· The mission statement should address:

· • Who should we serve?

· • What should they receive?

· • What is the ultimate result we seek?

· A mission statement should be relatively short (under 100 words, if possible).

· It must address the questions written above.

· Craft the Vision

· Visions can be short, such as “we will have a man on the moon”, or as long as a

· page or two. But, in either case, they must give a clear and compelling picture.

· There are no rules for creating visions.

· The vision is a “one size fits all” statement filled with nice-sounding platitudes.

· Contrast the visionary General Electric’s statement:

· “To become #1 or #2 in every market we serve and revolutionize this company to

· have the speed and agility of a small enterprise”

· with the vision of the far-less-successful company, Westinghouse:

· “Total Quality . . . Market Leadership . . .Technology Driven . . . Global . . .

· Focused Growth . . . Diversified.”

· Who can argue with the terms of the Westinghouse vision, but what do they mean?

· And, more important, how could they possibly influence how a manager makes

· decisions? Note the clarity of GE’s word picture.

· Set the Stage

· Hold a conversation that focuses on the question: Who is the customer for the

· vision? In other words, who is going to use the vision? How will it be used?

· A vision statement is often a one- or two-page word picture of what you want to

· create. It is a story written in the present tense as if that envisioned reality were

· already occurring. There is no set formula for a vision statement. You use your

· heart and gut as a guide. Does it inspire you? Will it focus your attention?

· Here is a way to create a vision statement:

· 1. Think about the following:

· “Relax. Imagine the future — three to five years from now. Imagine your

· organization has become everything you’ve hoped for.”

· “Allow an image to come to mind. What does this ideal picture look like?

· Explore this image. . . . Who is in it? . . . What’s going on in the scene? . . .

· What makes it so ideal? . . . What are people saying? . . . What are they

· doing? . . . Now, let that image go. . . . Allow another image to come into

· view. Explore this image. . . . Who’s in it? . . . What’s going on? . . . Where

· are you in this scene? . . . What’s it feel like to work here? . . . Now, allow

· this image to fade.”

· 2. “Jot down what you envisioned during this exercise.” Allow time for

· writing.

· 3. “Please sit quietly again and close your eyes. . . . Imagine that time in the

· future again. . . . A reporter from The Wall Street Journal is going to do a

· story on your organization. The reporter’s focus is on why you are the leader

· in the industry. What would you show the reporter as examples of things that

· make you particularly proud? . . . Be specific in your thinking and explore

· this image in some detail. . . . Perhaps the reporter is asking you questions.

· How would you respond? . . . Allow this image to fade.”

· 4. “Take a couple of minutes to jot down the images that came to mind during

· this last visualization exercise.”

· 5. Talk about what you envisioned.

· 6. Begin grouping the info as you share them. Can you craft a vision story from

· the group’s images?

· Determine Your Values

· Discuss:

· • In order to be successful, what values do we need to follow?

· • What values are implied in our mission and vision statements?

· • Which of these values are absolutely critical. Limit this list to a few items

· (five to seven).

· • What would it look like if we were living by those values?

· • What would it take for us to live by those values {but only create your mission statement} .)

· Your mission statement should explain why the business was created.

· Your mission statement should be justified by describing future and desired results.

Step 2:  Description of Product and/or Services

Explain the features & benefits details of your products and services to the consumer.

· Identify 3 or more products/services.

· Explain how they meet consumer needs by describing them using all the following criteria for each product/service and explaining how the features & benefits (in detail) meet the criteria:

1. Tangible/intangible

2. Separable/inseparable

3. Variable/invariable

4. Perishable/imperishable

· Describe the value to the customer.

Step 3:  Success Qualities

Qualities that will make your business a success.

· List the specific consumers (e.g., groups of people), organizations (e.g., schools, churches) or businesses (e.g. specific industries and/or companies) that your company serves or will serve and explain why they are a consumer, organization or business.

· Explain the competitive advantages that you believe will make your business a success such as your location, expert personnel, efficient operations, or ability to bring value to your customers.

Step 4:  Legal Status and Ownership type

This section will include the information that describes the legal structure of your business. The following information must be included:

· Legal Structure (e.g., sole proprietorship, partnership [including type], corporation [including type])

· Names of owners

· Percentage ownership or monetary contribution 

· Forms of ownership (i.e., common stock, preferred stock, general partner, limited partner)

· Role the individual holds in the business (e.g., CEO, General Partner – HR)

· Explain the advantages of the structure you chosen.
