1. Select a Policy Topic: Choose one of the following policy topics for development:
· Use of Force
· Community Policing
· Emergency Response Protocols
· Mental Health Crisis Intervention
· Body-Worn Cameras
· Data Privacy and Security
· Employee Wellness and Support Programs
2. Research and Analysis:
· Conduct basic research on the selected policy topic.
· Identify key needs and challenges specific to your department and community.
3. Policy Development:
· Based on the chosen topic, develop a policy for a department comprised of sworn and non-sworn staff.
· Ensure the policy includes the following components:
· Introduction:
· Briefly introduce the policy topic and its importance.
· Purpose:
· State the purpose of the policy.
· Scope:
· Define who the policy applies to (e.g., sworn and non-sworn staff).
· Policy Statement:
· Outline the main principles and guidelines of the policy.
· Procedures:
· Detail the basic procedures required to implement the policy.
· Roles and Responsibilities:
· Define the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders.
· Legal and Ethical Considerations:
· Address any major legal and ethical issues related to the policy.
4. Submission:
· Submit the completed policy document, ensuring it is clear and well-organized.

· This assignment is worth 60 points and will be graded by a Grading Rubric .
· Students will have 3 attempts to make 80% competency on this assignment. Failure to meet competency will mean failure in the course.
