1. Westerners and even some Islamic law scholars often comment that some aspects of Islamic law are inappropriate for modern times. Examples of stoning, amputation, gender differences in criminal procedure, and others are cited. Read the article ” Lashing, Stoning, Mutilating: Islamic Law is Barbaric and Outdated “.
1. Defend the Case of Islam by Abdullah Mohammed. Write three paragraphs in which you summarize a few arguments you find especially compelling in denying that Sharia is not appropriate in modern society. Conclude with your reasoned comments as to whether Islamic law is barbaric and outdated.
2. Read Chapter 1, Part (b) of ” The Constitutional Review and Its Development in the Modern World ” where you will find a more detailed categorization of judicial review models by Harutyunyan and Mavcic (1999). Other sections within Chapter 1 may also be helpful.
1. List the five models and indicate at least two countries using each model provided by Harutyunyan and Mavcic. Then, write one paragraph on each of the five models that compare and contrast the features of each model.
