07 Jul Begin Planning Your Own Integrated Study
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to get you started on planning your very own integrated study to use with young children.
Instructions
Over the next several modules, you will be designing an Integrated Study. You will begin by selecting a topic that is:
1. Important (worth knowing about for young children)
2. Interesting and relevant to children and their families
3. Accessible (You can provide direct, real experience with it almost every day.)
4. Right size (substantial enough for a deep study, but simple enough to be understood by young children).
Please see pages 65-68 for help in deciding on a topic to use.
It is important to find a topic that you will use later in your own classroom. Since you are going to design an integrated study, you might as well make it work for you in the future! The lesson plans you write in the coming modules will all become parts of this integrated study, so think about a topic that will allow you to plan lessons in the curriculum areas of physical development, communication, arts, and inquiry (math and science).
Once you have decided on your topic, submit it along with the reasons it meets each one of the criteria 1-4 above.
Complete the following steps:
- Think about a topic that meets all the requirements above.
- Submit your topic along with the reasons it meets each of the 4 requirements for the children you teach.
