Introduction

Most political violence in the U.S. falls within either leftwing or rightwing extremism. American culture and values can be perceived differently from the left or right. American values of past generations are now being rejected by modern generations, causing more of a left and right shift in American political and social culture. In this activity, you will define what extremism is, and then explore the ideology behind leftwing and rightwing extremism.

Extremism in the U.S. has its roots in ideologies and behaviors. Many of these ideologies or behaviors stem from either left or right extremists’ views. Describe what extremism is. Then, differentiate between leftwing and rightwing extremism ideology in the U.S., citing examples of leftwing and rightwing extremists’ activity within the U.S.
