Literary analysis of the story “trifles”

Write a properly formatted 2-3 page reaction paper to the play "Trifles" by Susan Glaspell. Use properly documented textual support.

Kelly J. Mays defines women’s roles at the turn of the 19th (1800s) to 20th (1900) Century in America at the beginning of Chapter 8 in our textbook. We see evidence of the limited roles (by today’s standards) that women had at that time in the text of the play Trifles itself. Yet, we also see that the women go against their roles at the end of the story when they solve the crime and suppress evidence that would convict another women. These actions are especially surprising for the character of Mrs. Peters, who is married to the sheriff. Orit Kamir explains why they do this in her journal article "To Kill a Songbird: A Community of Women, Feminist Jurisprudence, Conscientious Objection and Revolution in A Jury of Her Peers and Contemporary Film." (A Jury of Her Peers is Glaspell’s short story version of her play.) Using these three sources for support, do an analysis of the play within the context of women’s roles at the time the story is set using a feminist literary theory framework.
