What similarities can you draw between Ma’s (2018) experience watching her son play youth basketball, which she describes in "Quit calling my son Yao Ming," and the selected clip from Jeremy Lin’s documentary Linsanity featured in the asynchronous lecture? To what extent, if any, do you see the ideology of meritocracy at work in Ma’s article and/or the clips from the documentary? What do current disparities between club/travel sports and recreational sports reveal about factors or barriers that influence younger athletes’ entry into team sports? Lastly, using the theoretical tool of internal colonialism, create a connection with any portion of the clips from the HBO documentary Student Athlete featured in asynchronous lecture.
