reWrite my paper in APA style

Completing this final assignment will find you integrating all five :

1. Summarize, paraphrase, and quote from college-level texts accurately and ethically, using APA style;
2. Evaluate sources critically;
3. Cite sources in proper APA format through in-text citation and references page;
4. Produce documents that adhere to APA style and contain few or no grammatical, mechanical, or format errors.
5. Describe how the correct use of an academic style supports information literacy and helps writers avoid plagiarism.

Knowledge Outcomes: By completing the final assignment, you will:

  • Demonstrate your basic skills in using all aspects of APA style in formatting and sourcing a document.
  • Show your readiness to use APA style in future classes.
  • Breathe a sigh of relief that the class is over!  🙂

You have two choices for this piece of writing:

    • Option A: you may create a brand new piece of writing, or…
    • Option B: you may use a piece you’ve written for another class, “adjusted” as needed to meet the assignment requirements.

 You may write in first or third person. If you write in first person, use an authoritative tone and do not make it about your own experiences. (No “I believe,” “I think,” etc.)

Do not use second person (you, your, you are, you’re, your) at all. (Second person is a really weird point of view and really has no place in academic writing unless the circumstances and instructions are quite unusual.)

Your written piece must meet the “Must List” requirements, below. Meeting these will show me that you have mastered the basic concepts of this class.

Option B: A piece written for another class. Do the following:

Select a piece of academic writing that you have completed for another class.

It should be at least two pages long–not counting the References page.

It must use at least two pieces of source material, each of which should pass the CRAP test.

You may use a paper previously written in MLA style, but you will need to fully convert the paper to APA style.

The paper may be written in first or third person. If in first person, it should use an authoritative tone and it should not focus on your own experiences.

It should not use second person (you, your, you are, you’re, your) at all. (If it does, I’ll send it back for revision; second person is a really weird point of view and really has not place in academic writing unless the circumstances and instructions are quite unusual.)

Your written piece must meet the “Must List” requirements, below. Meeting these will show me that you have mastered the basic concepts of this class.

The “Must List”

Whichever option you choose, your paper must meet the following requirements:

  • It must be correctly formatted using APA 7th Ed. style and following precise formatting guidelines for a student paper. [See Module 1]
  • It should include a title/cover page* [Module 1]
  • It must work with authoritative sources that pass the CRAP test. [Module 2]
  • It will use at least two sources within the text, handling and citing them correctly using APA style. [Module 3]
  • It will include a correctly formatted APA References page. [Module 4]
  • It will use at least one quotation and one paraphrase, handling and formatting them correctly. [Modules 5 and 6]
  • It will show an awareness and correct use of APA language stylistics. [Module 8]
  • It will show an awareness and correct use of APA structural stylistics. [Modules 7 and 9]

  *An abstract is not required for student papers when following the APA 7th edition. However, if anyone wants to create an abstract just to practice doing so, feel free!

Due: by 11:59 pm on Wednesday of finals week (of the current term).

Grading: I will read your work and return it to you with comments. You will not be redoing this assignment. It’s your final exam, so check it carefully for content, formatting, grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. before submitting– and make sure you submit it in Word format!
