economic term paper

What I am looking for is economic reasoning, and a demonstration that you are applying microeconomic principles in a way that demonstrates understanding.  But I will remember that this is an introductory course.  This is not a graduate paper, but I definitely do expect it to be at a collegiate level.  Needless to say, plagiarism will not be tolerated.  Grammar and spelling do count.

Papers should be in APA format, but by agreements with the previous class, as an experimental basis, Ill accept other recognized formats.

Following are suggested topics.

SUGGESTED TOPICS

  1. You plan to open a sandwich shop in Jacksonville.  Analyze (list) what you will need as far as equipment and dining room supplies.  Include all supplies, to include napkins, etc.  Your rent is $2,000 a month, and the landlord requires a $3,000 security deposit in advance.  Your menu will include only sandwiches (white, wheat and rye toast, white and wheat subs, or pitas).  This will include turkey, ham, roast beef, salami, and pastrami, as well as breakfast sandwiches (eggs, cheese, bacon, ham & sausage).  You also serve French fries.  For cheese, youll need as a minimum American, Swiss and Provolone.  Youll do dine-in as well as take-out.  Research what licenses youll need and their cost.  Consider utility deposits.  Estimate how much money youll need to open up the sandwich shop, which seats 40 people.  Consider how much money youll need in reserve to pay at least the first months employee pay and taxes.  Note that there is no one correct answer.  Whats important is your analysis process and research.
  1. Analyze the market for cell phones.  This industry is an oligopoly.  What are the current market factors, in your opinion, that drive what types of cell phones will sell best at this point in time?  What are the factors that would go into the ideal phone for 2020?
  1. Obamacare:  A good idea or a great idea?  Or a terrible idea?  Use economic analysis, not emotion or politics, to arrive at a conclusion.  Include some analysis of Jonathan Grubers speeches on the subject.  An alternate topic, if you wish, would be to compare Obamacare to President Trumps proposed new American Care Act.  A word of caution, though.  As I write this, the new proposal is still in a great deal of flux.  There may be some dramatic changes before the end of this semester.
  1. Go back to Question #1 above.  As an alternate,  choose another business instead of a sandwich shop (perhaps a business which you personally think you might like to open some day).  Use the same rent and deposit information as above, but tailor the other questions to your chosen business.
  1. You own a small coffee shop, and you want to expand your operations to make more money.  Youve decided you want to sell Florida lottery tickets, to include Powerball, and scratch-off tickets as well.  Right now, you get 100 customers in the coffee shop every day.  Research what you will need to get certified as a lottery retailer, plus how much cash youll need to buy tickets, get the computerized equipment, and get in operation.  If you sell 2,500 tickets a week, of which 1,000 are Powerball, and none are winners, how much money will you earn in a year, after expenses?  If, on the other hand, you sell the same number of tickets a week, and during the first year you sell winning tickets that win a total  of $750,000, how much extra will you earn from commissions?  Do you think selling lottery tickets might also bring in extra customers for the coffee shop?  What might that do in terms of coffee shop revenues?
