The Pitfalls of Powered Industrial Trucks
In Chapter 15 of the textbook, the standards associated with powered industrial trucks were presented. Powered industrial trucks take many forms, although we are probably most familiar with forklifts as material handling and storage vehicles. For this discussion, first review this article Forklift Top 6: Common OSHA Compliance Pitfalls for Powered Industrial Trucks (https://isienvironmental.com/powered-industrial-trucks-blog/) from iSi. Select one of 6 listed areas and then conduct research to locate an article or OSHA News Release for a violation associated with one of the six compliance pitfalls from the article. Here is an OSHA News Release (Links to an external site.) for a company in Georgia.
For the initial discussion post:
- Provide a brief synopsis of the violation(s) including:
- State and name of the company
- Date of inspection or penalty issuance
- State if the violation was a repeat
- Specific standard citation if available
- Based on the information reviewed, now provide your thoughts on how the employer could better address the issue to ensure the violation is not repeated. Perhaps you have a recommendation from your workplace that would be appropriate. Consider the company industry sector, the workplace in which the forklifts are used, i.e., warehousing, storage yards, etc.
- After your initial post, review, and reply to a minimum of two peers’ posts. Did you find their posts informative or enlightening? What did you learn from their posts?
- Keep the conversation going and provide constructive feedback on your peers’ analysis. Your initial post should be made by the fourth day of the module.
