The main text book to be referenced in this class is Oakes, J., Lipton, M., Anderson, L., & Stillman, J. (2018). Teaching to change the world, 5th Edition.  New York:  Routledge. Pls use as much quotes from this textbook.

The project will be in the form of an educational outreach / advocacy presentation in which you will apply research and theory from this class to the task of educating one or more people who are in positions of influence (e.g., policy makers, diplomats, educators, etc.). The presentation has two elements – an information part to help people better understand the issue, and an advocacy part in which you try to improve a situation by encouraging some action – what do you think people should do about the issue that would make the current situation better? 

A topic for your presentation might include: family-leave policies for teachers, IDEA regulations, Privatization, Demographics and schooling, i.e. how teacher and student diversity often do not match, discrimination in school, school inequity, school funding, etc.

You will be graded on the degree to which you apply research and theory from the course, creativity, and contentiousness regarding the topic. You must have at least 5 references (empirical articles) from literature on education and schooling. Your outreach project must demonstrate your comprehension of these references and your ability to integrate the scholarly and research information to your advocacy.
