Instructions:

In this assignment you will choose ONE of the following topics to discuss:

• There are many different firearms that can be used by law enforcement, recreationally, or illegally. They can be divided into two main types: handguns (revolvers and pistols) and long guns (rifles and shotguns). Discuss these different types of firearms and how they are similar and dissimilar.

• Bullets and cartridge cases found at crime scenes can be compared to test fired bullets and cartridge cases from a firearm. Discuss the class and individual characteristics that are present on bullets and cartridge cases which can be compared to each other using a microscope.

• The NIBIN database run by the ATF is used for firearms evidence to link crime scenes together. Discuss how the database works and what information can be obtained from linking scenes together.
