Police agencies have steadily increased their use of social media in recent years. Agencies use social networking to communicate with the community, to ask for input from the community, and to improve community relations.

• Find a link to a police department’s social media post, and discuss the strategy that was used. Be sure to include the link.
• Describe your reaction to the post, including how it made you feel and whether it was effective.

If you are not certain how to respond to a classmate, consider altering your perspective as a member in describing your reaction. For example, to what extent would your perspective change if you were anti-police, or pro-police. Altering your perspective allows for you to consider how information received can vary based on the person.
