This week, we explored faith in America, historically, and as it differs from generation to generation. In particular, we looked at the branches of Christianity prevalent in America and the apparent decline of mainline Protestant denominations.

Based on Internet research of reputable sources, and an exploration of Bethel Library holdings, analyze the current state of three different American denominations (these three may be chosen from any branch of Christian tradition).

•          Consider briefly the overall demographics, geographical influence, and any especially unique or distinguishing elements of practice or belief for each of the three groups.

•          Consider what current generational differences in attitudes can be found toward the role of religion in personal and public life among members of each group. Be sure to consider what might account for any differences you observe.

•          Discuss the principal reasons for any apparent proportional decline, particularly of Protestant denominations, in contemporary America. If one of the groups you’re discussing is not in decline, note why.
