30 Aug Argument and Persuasion Discussion Methods of Persuasion and Types of Evidence in Arguments
After reading the lecture and reading the essay example please respond to the following:
1. Pick one method of Persuasion (Pathos, Logos, Ethos) and show 2 examples of it being used. You are to note how it was used, where it was used, and if it was effectively used. For instance: “The author used Pathos in paragraph 4 when they said ______. Pathos was used here to convince the reader of their point on an emotional level. They told a little anecdote, which definitely got their point across in an effective and poignant manner.”
2. Choose one type of evidence (Anecdotal, Analogical, Testimonial, Statistical/Factual) and show 2 examples of it being used. You are to note how it was used, where it was used, and if it was effectively used.
3. Choose one type of evidence and write a couple of sentences explaining if it was used (in)effectively throughout the essay. Was it over/under used, or used just enough.
4. Finally, write a short paragraph explaining if you were persuaded at all by the paper regarding its topic, and explain why or why not.
