References include concepts from textbook(s) with specific pages and URLs of online articles and videos. Please avoid news sources that are highly partisan and that offer more opinion than fact.
- Read an article from current news sources about an issue that affects at-risk populations. You may also watch videos on the subject.
- Imagine that you are a social worker employed by a nonprofit community organization whose mission is to address the issue at hand. You have formed a task group for a community project, and there is conflict within the group. Natural leaders in the community have formed subgroups around different approaches to the project.
- Summarize the current issue, how it is related to systemic oppression, and how you imagine it is affecting the community you are tasked to help.
- Describe the different approaches of the subgroups and how you imagine an unproductive dynamic could undermine progress.
- Explain how you will help the task group move from storming to performing. Be sure to use concepts from the Action-Social Model and from Social Thinking. Also, use Motivational Interviewing Spirit and Methods, such as OARS. Be aware that in your leadership role, you do not want to impose solutions or undermine capacity building, nor suppress the leadership potential of task group members.
