This is Mr. Holmberg—I will be guiding you through this rhetorical journey we are about to start! Mrs. Borgman notified you earlier this summer that your assignment is to read First You Write A Sentence and respond to the prompt: “Write a two page paper analyzing the author’s purpose AND his reasoning for the importance of coherence and syntax. Use 3-5 instances of textual evidence to support your reasoning.”
The big question here is why is syntax so important, according to the author, in the writing process. The examples you provide from the book should support your answer to this. There are a few expectations I have for this paper.
1. It needs to be clear. I want your paper to be written clearly so that another one of your classmates could read it and not be confused.
2. It needs to be coherent. All textual examples should relate to point you are trying to make. All paragraphs should focus on one point at a time, not several divergent points. Keep it simple and structured.
