31 Aug Attend Virtual AA/NA meeting write 300 words about experience
You will attend an online 12-step support group meeting and process your experience in a 300 word paper. It will be important to inform me in week one of two meetings you have selected to attend. You will select the primary meeting and then a backup meeting just in case there are problems that prevent you from attending the first meeting. Reflect on this experience in light of all you have learned in this class. Cite at least two sources in your reflections. Submit your completed paper by Wednesday of week 4.
Please complete this assignment in the following stages:
- Select two support group meetings to attend and inform instructor of your selections by the end of week one.
- Attend the support group meeting and inform the instructor of the meeting you attended by the end of week three.
- Write a 300 word paper processing this experience and submit it by Wednesday of week four.
Online meeting requirements:
- You must attend a 12-step style meeting (e.g. AA, NA). See here for a list of different 12-step facilitated support groups.
- The meeting you attend should be an online videoconference meeting (e.g. Zoom or Google Hangouts).
- The meeting you attend should be an OPEN meeting. Open meetings are those that allow outsiders to observe. The meeting information should specifically state that it is an open meeting. Do not assume that it is! If in doubt, contact a group leader and ask for permission to attend the meeting as a student observer. If the meeting is listed as an open meeting, then you do not need to ask permission to attend.
- Be respectful and polite. Do not speak unless asked to do so.
- If asked to introduce yourself, be honest about why you are attending the meeting. Do not pretend to be in recovery if you are not!
Many of the online meetings use Zoom and provide a meeting ID. You can use your PC, Mac, Tablet, or Smartphone. It will work on pretty much any device. Simply go here and enter the meeting ID and follow the instructions: https://zoom.us/join
