Part B:
This summative assignment requires you to utilize the concepts that we have covered during the course, and to apply them to create a presentation for your classmates on the current social issue you have chosen to learn about in the ALAs you have completed to date.
You are required to create a PowerPoint presentation which includes the following sections:
- Present the problem. Slides should help your audience understand the scope of the problem: How is it manifesting in your community? Nationally? Which groups are affected? What factors contribute to the problem? Give examples of how it affects groups/individuals using sources (can be online newspapers, organization websites, etc.)
- Theories. You should identify at least three theories or frameworks with which to analyze the problem. For example, what does the problem look like at each ecological level? How do ecological principles or behavior settings impact this problem? What are risk and/or resilience factors? What coping issues are involved? How do sense of community, stress and coping, power and/or oppression factors factor in?
- Evidence-based interventions—What does the research say about effective interventions and or programs to address this issue? Are there preventative measures to which have proven to be effective? Are there any recommendations at a national level?
- Information on an organization addressing this problem. Provide information on one organization of your choice who is addressing this problem. Are there local coalitions involved? What information have you obtained regarding these partnerships?
- Provide specific information detailing the intervention and action strategies used to address the problem, and which populations are targeted. Be sure to identify the ecological level(s) being addressed.
- Evaluation of program effectiveness. Use the concepts of community psychology to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the intervention strategies you have outlined. Your slides should cover the four elements of program evaluation that you have completed. Be sure to include specific data and statistics to support your assertions.
