Missed Opportunities for Interprofessional Practice:  

 

Watch the Youtube video that shows an example of communication during multidisciplinary rounds that was less than ideal.  I’m willing to bet that you have witnessed some of this behavior during rounds (I know I have!).  As an emerging nurse leader, you know you need to address it to ensure the type of clear communication needed for the best and safest patient care.  

 

Question #1:  What are some of the behaviors you noted that were unprofessional and you would want to address as a nursing leader.

Question #2:  Discuss the method that you could use to effectively communicate with this person and influence a change in behavior.

NOTE:  I am looking for ways YOU would address the behavior in this video.  Please do not write “I would get the charge nurse”/”Tell my manager.”  That is not addressing the behavior–it is avoiding a difficult conversation/conflict.  Informal nurse leaders have a responsibility to “call out” inappropriate and unprofessional behavior—in a professional manner of course.  THEN let the Charge RN and/or manager know so they are in the loop smile
