For this assignment, you will select any work of art within the range of media we discussed in class. It can be from the book or one you find online. Write an analysis that includes the following:
- Length: 400 500 words (approximately 1.5 to 2.5 pages, double spaced) (5 pts)
- Use at least one outside source. You may refer to the textbook, but you must also include a reputable outside source. Do not use Wikipedia. For both the textbook and outside sources, use full citations: page number, works cited page, etc. (5pts)
- Use the vocabulary that we have been working on this quarter. Lists are at the end of each chapter. (5 pts)
- Use a standard citation for the artwork: Artist name, title of the work in italics, and the date. (5 pts)
For example: Pablo Picasso, Guernica, 1937
If the date is not available or the artist name is not available, use the following format:
Unknown artist, n.d. [fyi- n.d. stands for no date.]
- A brief description of the work within the first or second paragraph (10 pts)
- Information to establish historical context (10 pts)
- Explain why this work is (or why it is not) meaningful, important, and enjoyable (10 pts)
Total: 50 pts
Please AVOID the following:
1. Starry Night by van Gogh – I love this painting, too, but it’s waaay overdone.
2. The Scream by Munch – Same deal as the Starry Night. Try to find a work that speaks to you other than these two.
Although your opinion is a huge part of this assignment, you must back it up with reasonable arguments and information. Please see the Final Project Example in this module.
You may use any format style that you are comfortable with (MLA, APA, etc.), as long as you use it
