Part I:
As we have seen in this course, part of preplanning for emergencies and disasters should include a communication plan. Part of the communication plan should include a public information officer (PIO) position. This position will be responsible for providing information during emergencies and disasters.
You have been selected to provide a job description for the PIO position that will be included in the communication plan. Your PIO job description should also include and expand on the following:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive public information program.
- Prepare media communications for the public.
- Develop public relations with media.
- Create daily and weekly information reports and summaries.
- Work with organizations to exchange information.
You will also research and discuss the requirements and skills that will be required for the public information officer position in your local community.
Part II:
Create an outline that indicates the most important aspects of communication during a crisis for EMS/fire agencies. Include the following in your outline:
- intra-agency communication,
- inter-agency communication,
- communication with stakeholders, and
- communication with the public.
Your essay should be at least three pages, not counting title and references pages. You should use the textbook and at least one outside source. Please adhere to APA Style when creating a title page, citations, and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary.
