After reading Kate Chopins The Story of an Hour”and constructing a detailed essay outline, write an
essay that clarifies what point Chopin was tryingto make about an abstract theme in the story (such
asindependence,marriage,self-reliance,nineteenth-centurygender roles, etc.) and how she made that
point clear to readers through her use oftwo elements of fiction(such ascharacterization,irony,
setting,symbolism,point of view, etc.). Your introductoryparagraph should present and explore what
you see as the storys main themeand should end witha claim that explains Chopins point about
that theme. Each body paragraph should present textualdetails and quotes that show how Chopin uses
one element of fiction to make her point clear. Theconclusion paragraph should rephrase your essays
main claim (in new terms), review each of its supportingclaims, and explain what the story revealed
