31 Aug Policy Memo
Bilateral relationship with China is considered one of Australia’s greatest contemporary foreign policy challenges. Despite being Australia’s largest trading partner since 2007, Australian-Sino diplomatic relations today is arguably at its worst since the two countries established official ties in 1972. As a senior policy adviser in the Department of The Prime Minister and Cabinet, you have been asked to prepare a concise, policy memorandum of 1,000 words* on Australia’s China policy. In the memo, you will need to provide a brief assessment on the current state of Australian-Sino relations, and to recommend a particular course of action on how Australia should best engage with China. Your recommendation should be based on informed research and the policy prescriptions should be in a manner that would best serve the national interests of Australians.
