31 Aug Dante’s The Inferno
Dante Final Response (DUE: 8/22- NO EXCEPTIONS!)
In a short response of 1 page, answer the following:
The journey to the Land of the Dead is an important part of the epic poem from Homer to Dante. Odysseus goes to Hades, Aeneas goes to the Roman underworld (Orcus or Dis), and Dante goes to the Christian Hell in the Inferno. Why do they go on these journeys? What do they find there? What do they learn? Who do they talk to? (Confine your essay to Homer and Dante but also look up Virgils Aeneid.) How does the journey of Aeneas to the underworld relate to the journeys of Odysseus (Ulysses) and Dante?
Finally, why is Ulysses (Odysseus) in Dante’s Hell? What story does he tell?
