Mention one thing from the Mari Letters (pp. 13-22) and one from the Nineveh Oracles (pp. 97-114) that you find interesting or strange.  What in your opinion is the significance of the fact that we have evidence of prophets in the ancient world who are NOT from ancient Israel or the Bible? 

Note on Reading: The reading consists of brief introductory essays and prophetic texts from the Bronze Age-era Mari Archives and Neo-Assyrian tablets (first millennium BCE).  Focus primarily on the translations.  The texts are occasionally broken and fragmentary.  They are brief glimpses of lost worlds and cultures that we don’t know much about.  You’ll come across terms and names you won’t be familiar with. The notes and introductory essays will help.  Just do your best to try to make sense of the material.  It’s fine if it all doesn’t make sense to you.
