TMA 01 will assess the following:

• your critical knowledge and understanding of key concepts and ideas covered in Block 1 of B329

• your ability to select and apply information and ideas from the interview you conducted in Week 5

• your ability to link module ideas to practical situations and/or to topical debates occurring in society.

 

In TMA 01 you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your critical thinking in applying, explaining and linking module concepts with the interview by writing a blog post.

Part A will be assessed in the following way (80 marks available):

• catchy title and image – 10 marks. Your blog post should have a catchy title, using no more than ten words, and there should be an appealing image included within the main body of the post, ideally at the beginning or in the middle of it. (You can use an image that you find online but please remember to cite the source.) In writing the title, you should take the perspective of external readers, stakeholders and media, and try to grab their attention.

Write a blog post of no more than 800 words. The blog post should include five elements; particularly, it should

• have a title and an image

• have a logical structure and be targeted for a specific audience of your choice

• provide a key argument and call to action

• explain two module concepts of your choice that were covered in Block 1

• be inspired by, and make reference to, the interview activity you did in Week 5.

 

• logical structure and audience – 10 marks. The blog post should follow the ‘inverted pyramid’ structure described in Week 5. Your intended audience should also be clear (e.g. employers of people in precarious jobs, politicians working on immigration issues, the general public, etc.).

• key argument and call to action – 20 marks. Your blog post should convey one key argument, presented at the beginning (the Lead), and a call to action, presented at the end (the Tail).

• explanation of two module concepts – 30 marks: The body of the blog post should also make reference to and explain two module concepts of your choice that are relevant to the key argument of your post. Some examples of module concepts are: turbulence; complexity leadership theory; adaptive leadership; precarity; populism; charismatic leadership; and culture. (You may use other module concepts presented in Block 1.)

• link with the interview – 10 marks. Within the body of the blog post, you should make reference to the interview you conducted in Week 5. (Please don’t include any confidential information given to you during the interview.)

You can include up to five key references – e.g. web sites, professional reports, public documents, policy papers or academic articles – and they are absolutely optional. You will need to include a list of all references included at the end of blog post. Note that references do not count towards your word limit.

Part B will be assessed in the following way (10 marks available):

• a reflective piece covering what you learnt from the interview conducted applying critical thinking skills – 10 marks. There are no right or wrong answers; this is a paragraph based on your experience. Considering the idea of ‘leadership in the eyes of beholders’ could help you in writing this paragraph.

Write a short paragraph of no more than 200 words reflecting on the interview (real or imaginary) that you conducted in Week 5. The short paragraph should include a reflective piece covering what you learned from the interview.

Part C will be assessed in the following way (10 marks available):

• provision of information (practical details) about the interview and attachment of the interview questions you asked during the interview (not the answers for reasons of confidentiality) in an appendix at the back of your TMA – 10 marks.

Append your interview questions and provide information on practical details regarding the interview – length (e.g. ‘about 30 minutes’), type of interview (e.g. ‘face-to-face’, ‘via Skype’, ‘by phone’, ‘imaginary interview’), venue and person (real or imaginary) interviewed.
