23 Apr Clinical Field Experience A: Student Engagement and Safety
Assessment Description
In an inquiry-based classroom, students are engaged in multiple types of learning activities and instructional strategies. This type of learning can be unsafe without proper classroom management procedures, especially in a science lab setting.
In this field experience, observe instructional activities as well as classroom management procedures in the classroom setting.
Allocate 5 hours in the field to support this field experience.
Observe a minimum of four lessons, two science and two health/PE/nutrition (an integrated health and science lesson may count for either requirement), led by a certified K-8 teacher. If possible, observe more than one classroom/teacher. In your observations, take note of student collaboration, engagement, and safety procedures.
Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.
In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect on the observed lessons, describing the following:
Student collaboration, engagement strategies, and safety procedures that were implemented during the observed lessons, and whether they were effective.
What you would do differently regarding future professional choices to improve student collaboration, engagement strategies, and safety procedures? Identify opportunities to improve verbal and nonverbal communication.
