Case scenario
Catalina Dolores is a Latino woman who arrived in the United States in March 2022; she comes from Mexico and is familiar and very fluent with the Spanish language; however, she is not as fluent in English. In Mexico, she worked as a farmer for a large coffee factory from the age of eighteen after high school as she was not able to attend further studies due to financial challenges; thus, she worked to raise money for fees. She lived with her parents in a substandard shelter in the Bajío region in central Mexico before being held at the US Mexican border in an attempt to enter the United States and was thoroughly affected by the political instability at the border. Catalina migrated to the United States in search of a better job to raise better funds to support her college education and take care of her parents at home. She is a lawful immigrant having the necessary documentation to live in the country for some time.
Strengths and challenges related to their arrival and experience of American culture
Language barriers are the first challenge Catalina is likely to experience because she is not eloquent in English, a common language in the United States. Therefore communication may be a greater challenge. Cultural differences in beliefs, norms, values, and things like foods and clothing may differ from those at their home in Mexico. Integration into society is likely a problem because many Hispanic people are segregated in their ancient and modern settlement areas in the United States. Therefore, she will likely be alienated and live in cheaper neighborhoods where they cannot have access to particular amenities, unlike the rest of their white counterparts(Bekteshi& Kang 2020). Lastly, due to her level of education, she is not likely to get better chances at employment or any employment opportunities
