Observe and reflect on how she starts class and gets students focused on the upcoming lesson and informs them on upcoming deadlines. Note the information posted on the white board and how she informs the students of the objective of the day.

2. How does the teacher review prior learning? How is she relating to the students' "world"? How does this help them relate to the lesson? Reflect and observe.

7. Reflect: Why did Ms. Nappier ask the students to show her one or two fingers indicating their preference for reading alone or with someone? Was this important? Why or why not?

8. Though it may be a bit difficult to hear Ms. Nappier and the students, you can see she has taken note paper and a pen from her desk and just sat down next to some students. What do you think she is going to do and why?

She moved to another group of students. How does Ms. Nappier interact with the students? Reflect on what you observe.

9. Did you see the student enter the classroom and hand Ms. Nappier the pink piece of paper she had earlier? Ms. Nappier had likely given the student a "pass" to go to the restroom and the student just reentered the classroom and quietly handed the "pass" back to Ms. Nappier. What can you conclude about classroom procedures Ms. Nappier has in place so that interruptions to instruction are kept to a minimum?
