Think about how artistic decisions made in creating the piece involve communication between the artists. What is one aspect of the performance that could not have occurred without communication between the choreographer and the set designer? How about between the choreographer and the composer?
What aspects of the dancer’s movements create sound? Is that sound “music”? Why or why not?
Describe one way in which the music, the actions of the dancers, and the physical characteristics of the stage reflect the broader theme of the piece (environmental issues, climate change).
Think about how your interpretation of the dance might be different if you hadn’t read the articles. That is, notice that our understanding of aesthetic works is shaped not only by the works themselves, but also by what we hear and read about those works (i.e., other forms of communication). What is one aspect of the performance that you thought about differently because of what you read?
