Overview

This course focuses on the business sector, commonly called charitable nonpro�ts. These organizations are classi�ed under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code. Do not use nonpro�ts

categorized under other sections of the IRS tax code for your �nal project assignment. Charitable nonpro�ts:

Are exempt from federal income taxes.

Are allowed to accept tax-exempt contributions.

Have limits to lobbying activities.

Cannot use their funds to support candidates for public of�ce.

You will study these organizations during this course. You will begin with the one you choose to use for your �nal project.

You will look at all aspects of an organization as part of your strategic analysis for the �nal project. You will interview an employee, manager, or key volunteer (such as a board member) of the

organization. You might even suggest a plan for making the organization more successful.

You need to identify a 501(c)(3) not-for-pro�t organization that you would like to study throughout the course to complete this journal assignment. Visit Candid.org (formerly Guidestar.org)
