Managing a classroom is about more than just rules and procedures. Teachers need to cultivate a positive learning environment that maximizes student engagement and minimizes conflict and disruption. This involves actions such as modeling positive interactions, setting expectations, strategically arranging the classroom, lesson planning, designing effective instruction, and using diverse instructional materials. For this assessment, you will create a classroom management plan in which you apply the principles of classroom management to explain how you would develop and maintain a sense of community within a diverse (e.g., abilities, skills, cultures, and language learners) classroom.
Assessment Preparation Select a middle or high school grade level and content area that you would like to teach someday. These selections will be the focus of your classroom management plan.
Assessment Deliverable  Create a minimum 1,050-word classroom management plan for your selected grade level and content area that promotes a positive environment, respectful behavior, and the use of digital resources to support engagement in learning. Include the following headings and information in your plan:
Classroom Expectations and Interactions Select and describe a classroom management model that aligns to your philosophy,
explain how it aligns to your philosophy, and discuss the model in relation to student development, learning, and motivation.
Describe your behavioral expectations for students. Consider incorporating information from previous assignments, such as your classroom management philosophy and routines and procedures.
Student Engagement Explain the relationship between motivation and student learning. Describe the strategies you would use to increase and maintain student motivation,
foster active engagement in learning, promote positive social interaction, and build a supportive learning environment.
Technology Identify at least 3 engagement and management digital tools (e.g., apps, websites,
devices) that can be used to provide students with a varied and dynamic learning experience that is familiar to them. Explain how you will integrate these digital tools to help you manage the classroom.
Classroom Arrangement Design the arrangement and physical layout of your ideal classroom, relative to the
grade level you selected. You may include photos or images of the arrangement and physical layout. Consider the following elements:
Seating arrangement Learning zones Teacher’s area Accessibility Decor and aesthetics
Safety and comfort Justify how this arrangement and layout would influence a positive learning environment,
promote appropriate student behavior, and help manage the classroom’s diversity and social dynamics (e.g., students with learning disabilities, English learners, etc.).
Cite at least 3 sources to support your plan and format your citations and references according to APA guidelines. Include a title page, headings, and a references page for the sources and/or images cited.
